From the Winery:
Our Vino Bianco is a delicious white blend. This wine celebrates the East End of Long Island and has since its first vintage in 2001. Likely the first "white blend" in the region, it has inspired new white blends from other producers creating a category in which the Long Island region excels. Our 2008 Vino Bianco is made from 30% Sauvignon Blanc, 29% Chardonnay (Dijon 96 clone), 20% Pinot Grigio, 11% Chardonnay ("Musque" clone) and 10% Tocai Friulano. The wine is alive with aromas and flavors of white flowers and apples, pears, spice and the sea. It is juicy and texturally satisfying, succulent, complex and long. We believe in blending because it creates more complex, complete and ultimately delicious wines. This is demonstrated by the versatility of the wine at the table. Able to pair with shellfish and fish dishes as well as feel comfortable with poultry, veal and even pork, our Vino Bianco offers a wealth of opportunities, tastes and textures. All the varieties were harvested and vinified separately and then blended together. The Musque Chard was fermented with ambient yeast in a new French oak puncheon. The Tocai and Pinot Grigio were raised in new and older French and Slovenian oak barriques and the Dijon clone Chard and Sauvignon Blanc were raised in stainless steel. The wine spent eleven months on its lees and 488 cases were bottled by gravity on September 9, 2009.

Sometimes we like to share what other people have to say about the wines, so here is a note from David Schildknecht from Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate April 2010 edition. "Yet more creativity and outstanding value is illustrated by the Channing Daughters 2008 Vino Bianco, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Grigio, with smaller amounts of the Musque selection of Chardonnay and of Tocai, as usual at this address vinified in various vessels including a new demi-muid and new barrique. A greenhouse-like wealth of flowers and foliage along with bacon and fresh apple greet the nose, followed by smoke-, white pepper-, and salt-inflected fruit on the palate. The balance of lees-enriched creaminess with luscious primary juiciness is impeccably struck and the wood entirely judicious. Relish this long-finishing delight over the next 2-3 years."
