From the Winery:
Surrounded by several of the most famous vineyards in Oregon, the Doe Ridge vines are already showing the superior wine potential of their illustrious neighbors. The grapes were carefully sorted and treated to daily punchdowns in open top fermentors in true Burgundian tradition. Transferred by gentle gravity flow to
barrel, the wine was then aged in French oak (67% new) for 16 months and cellared a further ten months until release.
With a smooth texture, this wine delivers layers of dark cherry, warm red licorice and blackberry on the focused palate. There is also a soft, milk chocolate muskiness reminiscent of forest floor and chanterelle mushrooms. On the nose, earthy aromas are complemented by a touch of lavender and violets. Vanilla and red roses show themselves. The long, elegant finish completes the experience and frames a remarkable wine that succeeds on every level.
Named for the deer residing in the wooded ravine that divides the vineyard, Doe Ridge is one of the most beautiful vineyards in the Willamette Valley. It is also one of the most innovative: farmed in two 20-acre parcels. One is planted to the principals of biodynamie and the other to the rigorous LIVE standards of sustainability. The vineyard provides a unique insight to the differences and similarities of the two farming philosophies from vine to glass.
